Lebanon Hunger Crisis Worsens as Gaza Conditions Also Deteriorate

The humanitarian crisis in Lebanon is worsening amid ongoing hostilities, while conditions in Gaza continue to decline sharply, with rising hunger, displacement, and strained basic services, according to Beyond Time News.

Rising Death Toll and Ongoing Strikes in Lebanon

At least nine people were killed in southern Lebanon on Thursday due to continued hostilities, while 13 others were reported injured in multiple strikes and military activity, according to UN humanitarian coordination office (OCHA) cited figures.

Between 17 and 28 April, 48 people were killed and 183 injured. Since the escalation began on 2 March, the death toll has surpassed 2,500, with more than 7,800 wounded, according to Lebanon’s health ministry.

Despite a ceasefire, OCHA said the situation remains fragile, with ongoing violence limiting humanitarian access and relief efforts.

Food Crisis and Humanitarian Strain

Aid groups have conducted limited relief missions to hard-to-reach areas, but insecurity and economic pressure continue to worsen conditions.

Nearly one-quarter of the population is now facing acute hunger. A UN-backed food security report warns that up to 1.2 million people could face severe food insecurity in the coming months.

The World Food Programme (WFP) said families are struggling to meet daily food needs as assistance efforts continue.

Overcrowded Shelters and Health Risks

In northern Beirut, hundreds of displaced people are living in overcrowded shelters with limited resources. The World Health Organization (WHO) reported severe pressure on health services, including hospitals and blood banks struggling to meet emergency needs.

Gaza Humanitarian Situation Worsens

In Gaza, conditions remain critical, with widespread displacement and shortages of clean water and sanitation.

UN teams reported that around 600 families in eastern Gaza City are living in damaged buildings and tents under harsh conditions. Poor sanitation, waste buildup, and insect infestations are increasing health risks.

Conclusion

The humanitarian situation in Lebanon and Gaza continues to worsen, with rising hunger, displacement, and limited access to basic services, according to Beyond Time News.
