May Day Protests Planned Across Germany

According to Beyond Time News, trade unions in Germany are set to hold hundreds of rallies on May 1 to mark International Workers’ Day. These demonstrations aim to oppose job cuts and reductions in social benefits.

Organisers have chosen the slogan “Our jobs first, your profits second” to highlight their concerns about worker rights and economic priorities.

Key Demands of Trade Unions

The unions are calling for the protection of the eight-hour workday, stronger social benefits, and a stable state pension system. They also want the government to introduce higher taxes on large fortunes.

Union leaders insist that companies should only receive state support if they invest within Germany. They argue that job security and social protection must come before corporate profits.

Major Rally and Political Participation

The main rally will take place in Nuremberg and will feature Yasmin Fahimi, president of the German Trade Union Confederation.

Leaders from the Social Democratic Party of Germany will also participate in separate events. Lars Klingbeil is expected to speak in Bergkamen, while Bärbel Bas will address a gathering in Duisburg.

Focus on Workers’ Rights

Through these rallies, unions aim to send a strong message that protecting workers’ rights, ensuring fair wages, and maintaining social security systems should remain top priorities in economic policymaking.
