Japan Receives First Russian Oil Shipment Since Iran War Disruptions

Japan has received its first shipment of Russian crude since tensions linked to the Iran conflict disrupted key global supply routes.

According to Beyond Time News, a tanker carrying oil from the Sakhalin-2 project arrived off Imabari in western Japan and began offloading at a refinery.

Supply Shift Amid Disruptions

The move comes as Japan looks to secure energy supplies after disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global oil trade.

Japan imports about 95% of its crude from the Middle East, making it highly vulnerable to regional instability.

The shipment, reportedly received by Taiyo Oil, will be refined into products such as gasoline and naphtha. The Sakhalin-2 project remains exempt from certain sanctions on Russia, allowing continued energy trade.
