ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has strengthened its global diplomatic standing and emerged as an important contributor to regional peace and stability, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Wednesday. He highlighted the country’s role in encouraging dialogue between Iran and the United States, marking a significant development in international diplomacy.
According to Beyond Time News, the prime minister made these remarks while addressing the 6th International Paigham-e-Islam Conference in Islamabad, where scholars, dignitaries, and religious leaders gathered to promote unity and harmony within the Muslim world.
Pakistan’s Role in Iran-US Dialogue
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif shared that Pakistan played a meaningful role in facilitating dialogue between Iran and the United States, helping both sides come to the negotiating table after decades of limited engagement. He noted that talks were held in Islamabad on April 11 and 12, where both countries agreed to move forward with discussions and a ceasefire understanding.
He described this diplomatic breakthrough as a reflection of the trust the international community places in Pakistan and its growing role as a peace-oriented nation.
Appreciation for Global Partners and Leadership
The prime minister expressed gratitude to several friendly countries, including China and Turkiye, for their continued support in promoting regional peace efforts. He further highlighted that relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have reached new levels, including expanded cooperation in defence and strategic areas. Reaffirming Pakistan’s deep respect for the holy sites, he stated that the protection of Haramain Sharifain remains a matter of faith for the nation.
Recognition of National Leadership and Institutions
PM Shehbaz Sharif also acknowledged the efforts of Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their key roles in facilitating diplomatic engagement and bringing stakeholders to the negotiating table.
He prayed for the success of Pakistan’s continued efforts to achieve lasting peace in the region and emphasized that the country’s diplomatic progress reflects coordinated national commitment.
Call for Unity Among Muslim Ummah
Speaking at the Paigham-e-Islam Conference, the prime minister stressed the importance of unity within the Muslim world. He said the gathering symbolized harmony among different schools of thought and praised religious scholars for their role in promoting peace, tolerance, and social cohesion.
He urged Ulema to actively guide society through their sermons and teachings, encouraging unity and discouraging division at all levels.
