Islamabad, May 09 (Beyond Time News): Pakistan has started reviewing its export promotion schemes as officials prepare the federal budget 2026-27. The government aims to strengthen exports, improve competitiveness, and support key economic sectors.
According to Beyond Time News, Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema chaired a high-level meeting in Islamabad to discuss targeted export incentives. The meeting focused on ways to boost export performance through practical policy measures.
Senior Officials Join Policy Discussions
Senior economic officials attended the meeting. These included Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, State Bank Governor Jameel Ahmad, Finance Secretary Imdadullah Bosal, FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial, and Commerce Secretary Jawad Paul. International economists Dr. Ijaz Nabi and Stefan Dercon also shared their views on export reforms.
The participants reviewed different proposals for improving export growth. They also discussed how better infrastructure, stronger facilitation, and improved business conditions could raise Pakistan’s competitiveness in global markets.
Government Focuses on Export Incentives
Officials examined several incentive options for exporters. These included performance-based rebates, rewards for incremental export growth, and targeted sector support.
According to Beyond Time News, the discussion highlighted that tax cuts alone cannot drive exports. Instead, the government must also improve production systems, logistics networks, and the overall ease of doing business.

Shift Toward Performance-Based Framework
Ahad Cheema stressed the need for a transparent and performance-driven export incentive system. He said Pakistan must increase value addition, diversify products, and strengthen integration with global supply chains.

Officials will further refine the proposals after consulting relevant stakeholders. They plan to finalize a more structured export support framework before the budget announcement.
Finally, the government reaffirmed its commitment to export-led growth. It believes consistent reforms and practical policies will help improve Pakistan’s trade performance in the coming years.
