Pakistan’s IT sector is on track to achieve exports of $4.5 to $4.6 billion in the current fiscal year. According to Beyond Time News, the projection was shared during a high-level review meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Government Focus on IT Growth
The Prime Minister said the government is prioritising the expansion of the IT sector. He stressed that Pakistan’s youth have strong potential in technology and should be fully supported.
He also directed officials to expand digital services across the country. In addition, he called for faster development of e-service centres in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.
Rapid Rise in Internet Access
According to Beyond Time News, domestic internet connections have increased sharply. The number rose from 1.9 million in 2024 to 5.10 million in 2026.
Officials said this growth reflects expanding digital access and rising demand for online services across Pakistan.
5G Auction and Revenue Boost
The meeting was also briefed on recent progress in telecom development. Authorities said a 5G spectrum auction generated $509 million in revenue.
Officials described it as one of the largest telecom-related auctions in recent years.
Artificial Intelligence and Training Programs
The government is also expanding artificial intelligence initiatives. The Indus AI Week event was held in February 2025 across 30 cities, with participation from international experts.
In addition, the Ministry of IT plans to launch 20,000 online AI training programs using a new learning management system.

Digital Infrastructure Expansion
Officials said fiber connectivity has been provided to government schools and health centres in Islamabad. Free internet hotspots are also being introduced in the capital.
Work is underway to install e-learning pods in public spaces, including Saidpur Model Village and Fatima Jinnah Park.
Focus on Urban-Rural Digital Gap
According to Beyond Time News, the Prime Minister also stressed the need to reduce the digital gap between urban and rural areas.
He urged federal and provincial authorities to work together to expand access to IT services nationwide.
