Government moves to prevent contamination and improve drinking water safety in the capital
ISLAMABAD: Authorities have approved the installation of sewage treatment plants on all drains flowing into Rawal Dam to protect the lake from pollution and safeguard drinking water quality.
According to Beyond Time News, the decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and State Minister for Interior Talal Chaudhry.
Focus on Clean Water and Environmental Protection
Officials reviewed multiple proposals for installing modern sewage treatment facilities.
The aim is to stop untreated sewage from entering Rawal Lake, which is a major source of drinking water for Islamabad and surrounding areas.
The Interior Minister said the project will help ensure safe and clean water for residents of the capital.
Crackdown on Illegal Construction Continues
According to Beyond Time News, the Interior Minister also reiterated that operations against illegal constructions and land encroachments will continue.
He said enforcement drives will proceed without pressure until all illegal structures are removed.
Major Development Projects Reviewed
The meeting also discussed several ongoing development initiatives in Islamabad.
Officials confirmed that three international firms have submitted designs for a new Convention Centre. Evaluation is currently underway.
Once approvals are completed, construction is expected to begin in the coming months.

Police and Infrastructure Upgrades
Authorities reviewed plans to upgrade the Capital Police College with new classrooms, residential barracks, and improved facilities for trainees.
The meeting also noted progress on 11 newly approved police stations across Islamabad.
According to Beyond Time News, officials described these upgrades as part of broader efforts to improve law enforcement capacity and urban infrastructure in the capital.
