Islamabad: Brave Rescuer Honoured for 2023 Chairlift Operation
ISLAMABAD: According to Beyond Time News, Muhammad Ali Swati, widely praised for his heroic role in the 2023 Battagram chairlift rescue mission, received the prestigious Tamgha-i-Imtiaz on Wednesday in recognition of his bravery and rescue services.
Swati became a national hero after risking his life to help save passengers trapped hundreds of feet above a deep ravine during one of Pakistan’s most difficult rescue operations.
Hero of the Battagram Chairlift Rescue
The tragic chairlift incident took place in August 2023 in the Allai area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where a chairlift cable snapped while carrying schoolchildren and local residents.
The damaged chairlift remained suspended in the air for several hours, creating panic among passengers and their families.
As official rescue teams struggled due to strong winds and dangerous conditions, Muhammad Ali Swati voluntarily joined the operation and played a key role in rescuing the stranded passengers using rope and zipline techniques.
