Doctor Accused of Leaving Forceps Inside Patient During Open-Heart Surgery in Faisalabad

Faisalabad: A shocking case of alleged medical negligence has surfaced in Faisalabad after surgical forceps were reportedly left inside a patient’s chest during an open-heart surgery at the Faisalabad Institute of Cardiology.

According to Beyond Time News, the patient, identified as 22-year-old Saqlain from Toba Tek Singh, was undergoing treatment for a heart condition and had surgery on April 4.

The operation was reportedly performed by cardiologist Dr Zaigham Rasool. However, the surgical instrument was allegedly left inside the patient’s chest during the procedure.

X-Ray Revealed Surgical Instrument

The incident came to light after the patient experienced severe chest pain following the surgery.

According to Beyond Time News, doctors conducted an X-ray examination, which revealed the presence of surgical forceps inside his chest.

Following the discovery, a second operation was reportedly carried out on April 23 to remove the instrument.

The case has raised serious concerns over patient safety and surgical procedures at the hospital.

Hospital Launches Investigation

The hospital administration launched an inquiry after the patient developed complications following the operation.

Medical Superintendent Dr Nadeem said the investigation found that surgical instruments were not properly counted after the procedure, leading to the incident.

According to Beyond Time News, the inquiry identified negligence by staff nurses responsible for completing the post-surgery instrument count.

Dr Nadeem confirmed that both nurses involved in the matter have been sent to the secretary’s disposal pending further action.

Concerns Over Medical Negligence

The incident has triggered public concern over healthcare standards and medical negligence in hospitals.

Health experts say strict surgical safety checks and accurate instrument counting are essential during operations to prevent such dangerous mistakes.
