Iran Condemns US Strike Near Bandar Abbas as Regional Tensions Escalate

Tehran: Iran on Thursday condemned a reported US strike near Bandar Abbas in southern Iran, accusing Washington of violating the ceasefire and increasing tensions in the region.

According to Beyond Time News, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei described the reported attack as a “flagrant violation” of international law and the UN Charter.

Baghaei said the United Nations Security Council should hold the United States accountable for actions targeting Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

He also accused Washington of repeatedly violating the ceasefire that took effect on April 8, citing military activity near southern Iran and incidents involving commercial shipping in the Gulf region.

Iran Warns of Response to Further Attacks

Iran said it would take all necessary measures to defend its sovereignty under Article 51 of the UN Charter.

Baghaei also criticized what he called threatening remarks by US officials toward Iran and regional countries, warning that such rhetoric could further destabilize the Middle East.

He expressed support for Oman, saying countries involved in diplomatic mediation efforts should not face threats or pressure.

IRGC Claims Retaliatory Strike

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) claimed it carried out a retaliatory strike targeting a US airbase in Kuwait following the reported incident near Bandar Abbas.

Iranian media said the IRGC described the action as a warning against future attacks. There was no immediate response from the US military.

Earlier, a US official said American forces intercepted four Iranian drones near the Strait of Hormuz and struck a drone control site in Bandar Abbas that was allegedly preparing another launch.

The official described the operation as a defensive action aimed at maintaining the ceasefire.

Strait of Hormuz Remains Under Focus

The latest developments have renewed concerns over security in the Strait of Hormuz, a key global route for oil shipments.

European Union foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said the waterway remains in a tense situation “between war and peace,” stressing the importance of freedom of navigation for global trade and energy stability.

The escalation also pushed oil prices higher amid fears of further instability in the region.

Iran Calls for Release of Frozen Assets

Ali Bagheri Kani, deputy secretary of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, also called for the release of Iranian assets frozen by the United States.

He said the assets belong to the Iranian people and should be returned without conditions.

Regional Uncertainty Persists

The latest exchange between Tehran and Washington has added to uncertainty surrounding the fragile ceasefire and broader regional stability.

Analysts warn that continued tensions around the Strait of Hormuz could impact international shipping, energy markets, and diplomatic efforts in the region.
