ISLAMABAD: Private airline South Air has announced plans to start regular flight operations to Dera Ismail Khan, marking a significant step toward improving air travel connectivity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to Beyond Time News, the initiative is aimed at boosting regional access, tourism, and economic activity in the province.
Meeting Held to Discuss Expansion Plans
A delegation of South Air, led by Kanwar Muhammad Tariq, met Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi to present the airline’s expansion strategy and upcoming operations.
During the meeting, both sides discussed new routes and the importance of strengthening air links within the province.
Government Support for New Routes
Governor Faisal Karim Kundi assured full support for South Air’s operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including proposed flights to Dera Ismail Khan and Chitral.
He welcomed the airline’s entry into the province, expressing confidence that the new services would contribute positively to regional development.
Focus on Tourism and Economic Growth
The governor highlighted that improved air connectivity is essential for promoting tourism, trade, and business activities.
He noted that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has vast tourism potential, but several key areas still lack proper air transport facilities.
According to him, better flight connections with cities like Karachi, Lahore, and Quetta could help strengthen economic activity across the region.
Employment and Development Opportunities
Governor Kundi further stated that the entry of new airlines would create job opportunities and support the growth of tourism and commercial sectors in the province.
He emphasized that improved connectivity plays a key role in long-term regional development.
South Air’s Recent Operations
Earlier, South Air conducted its first trial flight from Karachi to Gwadar, successfully landing at the New Gwadar International Airport.
The flight marked an important milestone in improving air travel facilities in the coastal region.
The airline’s operational flight Z8-905 departed Karachi at noon and reached Gwadar at 3:40 p.m.
Boost for Regional Connectivity Under CPEC
The operationalization of Gwadar’s airport under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) is expected to improve passenger and cargo movement.
Officials say the new air routes will significantly reduce travel time between major cities, including Karachi, Gwadar, and Quetta, while also supporting trade and tourism across the Makran region.
Conclusion
South Air’s expansion into Dera Ismail Khan reflects growing efforts to enhance domestic air connectivity in Pakistan. With government backing and new route development, the initiative is expected to improve travel options, boost tourism, and strengthen regional economic activity.
