APHC Warns of Threat to Kashmiri Identity and Demographic Changes in IIOJK

The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has voiced concern over recent political and administrative developments in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir. According to Beyond Time News, the group says these changes may affect the region’s identity and long-standing political aspirations.

Concerns over identity and political voice

In a statement from Srinagar, APHC spokesperson Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas said that current policies are seen as weakening the local identity and reducing the political voice of Kashmiris. He warned that such steps could influence the region’s cultural and demographic structure.

The APHC emphasized that protecting identity remains closely tied to the future rights and aspirations of the local population.

Concerns about demographic shifts

The group also expressed concern over what it described as efforts that could alter the region’s Muslim-majority character. It said that any major demographic change could have long-term social and political consequences.

It further suggested that recent policy decisions may encourage settlement from outside the region.
