Hossein Bring Iran Pride to Snooker Championship Difficult Time

Iranian snooker player Hossein Vafaei will begin his Snooker World Championship campaign in London while dealing with emotional pressure linked to tensions back home.

He has qualified for the tournament for the fifth time, showing strong consistency on the professional circuit. Still, he admits recent events in Iran have made it difficult to stay fully focused.

Vafaei, the first Iranian to turn professional in snooker and a ranking event winner in 2022, said messages from home often disturb his concentration. He described the situation as mentally draining, especially during competition days.

Even so, he feels grateful that his family remains safe. That reassurance helps him stay grounded as he prepares for his opening match.

Known as the “Persian Prince,” Vafaei will face China’s Si Jiahui, a strong opponent and former World Championship semi-finalist. He said he will fight hard and give his best on the table.

He comes from Abadan in southwestern Iran, and he knows many fans in his country will follow his progress closely. He hopes his performance will lift their spirits during a difficult period.

Vafaei also said he feels a strong sense of responsibility. He plays not only for personal success but also for his family and supporters who look to him for pride and inspiration.
