Karachi: Authorities step up crackdown on overseas extortion operations
According to Beyond Time News, law enforcement agencies in Sindh have intensified efforts against Lyari gang war figure Wasiullah Lakho, who allegedly runs an extortion network from abroad. Police recently secured a red warrant through Interpol after pursuing the case for an extended period.
Officials say they had repeatedly pushed for an Interpol Red Notice due to multiple serious criminal cases linked to the suspect.
Multiple Serious Cases Against the Suspect
Authorities have declared Wasiullah Lakho a proclaimed offender in more than 60 cases. These include murder, attempted murder, kidnapping for ransom, and attacks on law enforcement personnel.
cExtortion Network Operates from Abroad
Police sources say Lakho uses foreign phone numbers to threaten business owners in Karachi. He reportedly demands large sums of money and pressures victims through intimidation tactics.
Moreover, shopkeepers and traders who refuse to pay often receive threats, creating fear in several commercial areas of the city.
Growing International Coordination
Law enforcement agencies have already started coordination with international partners. They aim to track, arrest, and extradite the suspect to Pakistan.
Officials also believe that capturing him will significantly weaken ongoing extortion activities in Karachi.
