Pakistan is steadily strengthening its position in the global tech landscape. The country has ranked 16th out of 193 nations in the 2026 Global Outsourcing Talent Index, highlighting its growing appeal as a hub for IT services and outsourcing.
According to Beyond Time News, Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja shared that Pakistan now sits among the top 9% globally. She described the progress as a clear sign of the country’s expanding digital economy.
Strong Growth in Pakistan’s IT Sector
Pakistan’s technology sector continues to grow at an impressive pace, with an average annual growth rate of around 20%. This steady rise reflects increasing global demand for Pakistani IT professionals, freelancers, and outsourcing services.
The report also shows that Pakistan has outperformed several major economies. These include countries like the United Kingdom, Spain, France, and Germany. It also ranks higher than China, Vietnam, and Colombia, further strengthening its global standing.
Potential to Reach Top 11 Globally
The minister noted that Pakistan could move up to 11th place with further improvements in digital infrastructure. This includes better internet connectivity, stronger telecom networks, and expanded access to modern technologies.
Key initiatives supporting this growth include:
- Expansion of telecom spectrum
- A nationwide fibre optic network plan
- New submarine internet cables
- Improved connectivity with China and Central Asia
These steps aim to build a stronger digital backbone for long-term growth.

Focus on Skills and Youth Development
The government is also investing heavily in digital skills. Programs are underway to train up to one million young people in artificial intelligence and modern technologies.
Platforms like Digiskills.pk continue to support freelancers and IT professionals. In addition, apprenticeship and internship programs are helping young talent enter the global tech market.
Boosting Global Presence
Pakistan has actively promoted its tech industry on the global stage. Over the past 18 months, the country has participated in more than 40 international technology events.
These efforts aim to improve Pakistan’s global image and attract foreign investment in IT and outsourcing services.
Cybersecurity Remains a Key Priority
The minister also stressed the importance of cybersecurity for future growth. She explained that strong digital security systems are essential to build trust among international investors.
Pakistan has already digitized over 32 government services. Citizens can now access important documents through mobile apps, including services linked to National Database and Registration Authority.
However, she emphasized that further progress depends on stronger laws, policies, and institutional frameworks to support a secure digital economy.
With continued investment in infrastructure, skills, and cybersecurity, Pakistan is well on track to become a leading global destination for IT outsourcing in the coming years.
