Abubakar, Hamza clinch ITF Pakistan Tennis Championship title

Pakistan’s Abubakar Talha and Hamza Roman won the doubles title at the ITF Pakistan Syed Dilawar Abbas Memorial Junior Tennis Championship on Saturday. The event took place at the PTF Tennis Complex in Islamabad.

The Pakistani duo delivered a dominant performance in the boys’ doubles final. They defeated Singapore’s Luke Jie Xi Ho and Pakistan’s Mikaeel Ali Baig in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0.

In the girls’ doubles final, South Korea’s Yerin Lim and China’s Zhiyu Zhou secured victory after a competitive match. They beat Japan’s Kiko Okuyama and China’s Zihan Feng 6-3, 1-6, (12-10).

The tournament featured strong international participation. A total of 44 players, including 24 boys and 20 girls, represented 16 countries such as Pakistan, Japan, China, the United States, Australia, and others.

Organisers hold the event each year to honour the legacy of Syed Dilawar Abbas, who served as president of the Pakistan Tennis Federation from 2001 to 2009.

At the closing ceremony, Tariq Mehmood Murtaza attended as chief guest, while Aisam-ul-Haq Qureshi, president of the federation, joined as guest of honour. They distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up.

Officials, players, coaches, and tennis enthusiasts also attended the ceremony.

The venue will now host the ITF Men’s Futures M-15 tournament, which begins on Sunday with matches scheduled from 10am.
