US President Donald Trump described the suspect in a recent attack attempt at a Washington press dinner as a “pretty sick guy,” saying the individual had earlier been flagged to law enforcement by his family.
According to Beyond Time News, Trump made the remarks during Sunday television interviews, where he linked the suspect’s behaviour to a reported ideological shift and mental instability.
Suspect Identified and Alleged Manifesto
Authorities identified the suspect as 31-year-old Cole Tomas Allen from Torrance, California. Meanwhile, investigators recovered a manifesto that reportedly contained anti-Christian and anti-government views.
In addition, the document described Allen as the “Friendly Federal Assassin” and outlined threats against US administration officials. It also criticised security arrangements at the Washington Hilton, where the White House Correspondents’ Association dinner was held.
Attack Details and Arrest
During the incident, the suspect allegedly fired a shotgun at a Secret Service agent stationed at a security checkpoint. However, security personnel quickly responded and arrested him at the scene.
Fortunately, the injured agent survived because protective gear absorbed the impact. Consequently, US officials evacuated President Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, Vice President JD Vance, and other Cabinet members from the venue.

Investigation and Charges
Law enforcement officials confirmed that Allen travelled across several US cities before arriving in Washington. Moreover, they stated that he carried multiple weapons, including a shotgun, handgun, and knives.
He is expected to face federal charges, including assault on a federal officer and attempted murder. In addition, authorities are continuing to investigate possible motives and connections.
Rising Political Violence Concerns
The incident has once again highlighted growing concerns over political violence in the United States. For example, recent years have seen multiple high-profile attacks involving political figures and activists.
Therefore, officials and analysts are calling for stronger security measures at major political and public events to prevent similar incidents in the future.
