Kashmiri shawl sellers harassed, forced to raise Hindu Slogans in Haryana

Srinagar: Another disturbing incident of harassment of Kashmiri shawl sellers has been reported from Haryana’s Yamunanagar district, marking the third such case in recent weeks in the Indian state.

According to Beyond the Time News, Nazir Ahmad Khwaja and Imtiyaz Ahmad, two Kashmiri youths, were stopped on the road, questioned about their identity, and subjected to objectionable remarks by local youths in Kalawad village.

The situation escalated when the vendors were pressured to raise Hindu religious slogans like “Jai Shri Ram” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai”. A video of the confrontation surfaced on social media, triggering public outrage and concern.

In the footage, one of the accused can be seen repeatedly pressuring the Kashmiri vendors to chant slogans, warning them that their clothes would be taken away if they were seen in the village again.

The incident has raised concerns over the safety of migrant and itinerant workers from Kashmir, following similar cases in Kaithal and Fatehabad. The police have received information about the incident but no action has been taken.

The Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) has condemned the incident, stating that such repeated acts of intimidation against innocent Kashmiri traders and students are deeply condemnable and reflect a worrying pattern of prejudice and hostility.
