NAB Transfers 6,500 Kanal Public Land to CDA in Major Governance Push

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has completed a major step in securing public land by transferring thousands of kanals of amenity and utility land to the Capital Development Authority (CDA), aiming to resolve long-standing irregularities in housing societies.

According to Beyond Time News, the move focuses on land that was originally reserved for public services such as parks, schools, and hospitals but remained untransferred or improperly used for decades.

Large-Scale Land Transfer Completed

In the first phase, 5,484.76 kanal of amenity land from Gulberg Residencia and 999 kanal from Margalla View D-17 have been formally handed over to the CDA. The transfer was completed under the supervision of senior NAB Islamabad/Rawalpindi officials, with support from relevant land and planning departments.

A formal registration ceremony was also held to mark the completion of this key milestone.

Land Worth Rs. 66 Billion Secured

Officials estimate the total value of the transferred land at around Rs. 66 billion, based on official and market rates. The land includes areas designated for essential public facilities such as educational institutions, healthcare centres, and recreational spaces.

Another 4,500 kanal is expected to be transferred in the next phase of the operation.

Long-Standing Cases Finally Resolved

The initiative has also helped settle several decades-old disputes, some pending for more than 30 years. Notably, the Civil Employees Housing Society case has now been fully regularised after nearly 31 years.

In total, about 4,793 kanal of land has been officially mutated in favour of regulatory authorities.

Tackling Illegal Land Practices

Officials noted that delays in land transfers had led to misuse, including encroachments and illegal plotting practices in some housing schemes. The latest action ensures that such public land is now formally secured and restored for its intended purpose.

Strong Inter-Department Coordination

The process was carried out through close coordination between NAB, CDA, the Islamabad Revenue Department, and housing society managements. A dedicated task team was formed to ensure transparency, efficiency, and timely completion.

Expansion of Reform Drive

NAB has now expanded the initiative to cover remaining housing society land in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. These transfers will be completed in coordination with CDA and RDA, and the drive is also expected to extend to other districts in the Rawalpindi Division.
