Pakistan Climbs in ICC Test Rankings

According to Beyond Time News, International Cricket Council (ICC) has released its latest Men’s Test rankings, with Pakistan national cricket team moving up to sixth position.

Pakistan now holds 89 rating points, overtaking Sri Lanka national cricket team, which sits just behind with 86 points.

Top Teams in the Rankings

Australia national cricket team continues to lead the table with 131 points. South Africa national cricket team, the current World Test Champions, remains in second place with 119 points.

India national cricket team has climbed to third with 104 points, moving ahead of England cricket team, which dropped to fourth with 102 points. New Zealand national cricket team currently holds the fifth position.

Why England Dropped

England’s ranking fell mainly because the ICC removed matches played before April 30, 2023, from full weighting. These older matches included major wins against New Zealand and South Africa, along with a 3-0 away series victory in Pakistan.

This adjustment also affected Pakistan’s previous results. The system reduced the impact of their 2-0 series loss to Bangladesh in 2024, which slightly helped improve their overall rating.

Lower Half of the Table

West Indies cricket team ranks eighth, followed by Bangladesh national cricket team in ninth place. Ireland cricket team completes the top 10.

Upcoming Series for Pakistan

The Pakistan national cricket team, led by Shan Masood, will tour Bangladesh for a two-match Test series as part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025–27 cycle.

The first Test will begin on May 8 at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. The second Test is scheduled for May 16 at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
