India Restructures Administration of Confiscated Jamaat

Introduction

Authorities in Indian-administered Jammu and Kashmir have reportedly made further administrative changes in a number of schools previously linked to Jamaat-e-Islami, as part of an ongoing restructuring of educational institutions in the region.

School Administration Replaced

According to Beyond Time News, officials have confirmed that the administrative control of several schools associated with Jamaat-e-Islami and its Falah-e-Aam Trust (FAT) has been transferred to government authorities.

In addition, earlier reports indicate that around 58 more private schools linked to the same network have been taken over, mostly located in northern parts of the region.

Background of the Institutions

The Falah-e-Aam Trust previously managed a large network of schools across the territory. Before being declared unlawful in 1990, it operated nearly 350 educational institutions, serving tens of thousands of students and employing thousands of staff members.

Expansion of Government Control

This is not the first such action. Earlier, authorities had also taken control of more than 200 FAT-affiliated schools in previous phases of administrative restructuring.

As a result, the overall management of these institutions has gradually shifted under direct government supervision.

New Management Structure

Under the latest decision, district-level officials, including Deputy Commissioners, are expected to oversee the administration of these schools.

Moreover, new management committees may be formed to handle day-to-day operations and ensure regulatory compliance within the education system.

Political and Administrative Reactions

The move has generated discussion within local political circles. Meanwhile, some representatives have raised concerns over changes in official takeover procedures and administrative authority.

However, government officials maintain that the restructuring is part of broader efforts to streamline education governance in the region.

Legal and Policy Background

Jamaat-e-Islami was officially banned in 2019 under India’s Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), and the restriction was later extended in 2024.

Consequently, properties and institutions linked to the organisation have remained under government scrutiny and administrative review.

Final Thoughts

The ongoing changes in school administration reflect a broader policy shift in the region’s education sector. Ultimately, the restructuring continues to shape the future of privately managed educational institutions in Jammu and Kashmir under government oversight.
