Senior cleric Maulana Muhammad Idrees Turangzai of Darul Uloom Haqqania was martyred in a targeted shooting incident in Charsadda, officials confirmed.
According to Beyond Time News, unidentified armed men opened fire on his vehicle, leaving him critically injured. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
Motorcycle-Borne Attackers Open Fire
Police said at least four attackers riding motorcycles ambushed the vehicle and sprayed bullets before fleeing.
Two police constables were also injured in the attack and are under treatment. Authorities have termed the incident a targeted killing.
Search Operation Underway
Maulana Idrees served as a senior teacher at Darul Uloom Haqqania and was a former member of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly representing Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI).
According to Beyond Time News, security forces cordoned off the area and launched a search operation. Investigators are examining Safe City camera footage, while special teams have been tasked with tracking the suspects.

Condemnations from Leadership
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressed sorrow over the killing and extended condolences to the family.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi condemned the attack, sought a report, and directed authorities to provide the best possible medical care to the injured and full support to the bereaved family.
Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed also ordered swift action to arrest those responsible.
