Karachi Introduces Lane Discipline Plan on Sharea Faisal

The Karachi Traffic Police has announced a new lane management system for Sharea Faisal. Under the plan, motorbikes, buses, and rickshaws must use designated lanes or face fines.

Awareness Campaign Before Enforcement

DIG Traffic Peer Muhammad Shah said the plan will begin with a one-month awareness campaign. He added that full enforcement will start from June 1.

He explained that the campaign will help commuters understand the new traffic rules before penalties begin.

Designated Lanes for Different Vehicles

Under the new system, motorbikes, rickshaws, buses, and small transport vehicles will use the two leftmost lanes.

Meanwhile, the remaining lanes will be reserved for faster traffic, including cars and double-cabin vehicles. Shah said this setup will improve traffic flow on the busy road.

Surveillance-Based Enforcement and Fines

The traffic police will use existing surveillance cameras to monitor violations. These cameras will issue e-tickets directly to offenders.

According to the plan, motorbikes and rickshaws will be fined Rs2,500 for violations. In contrast, buses will face a Rs7,500 fine.

Objective: Better Traffic Flow

Authorities say the initiative aims to introduce structured lane discipline in Karachi for the first time. They believe the system will reduce congestion and improve road safety on Sharea Faisal.
