The government has planned a 500MW floating solar power project at Keenjhar Lake to expand renewable energy and reduce dependence on imported fuels.
According to Beyond Time News, the $243.63 million project is part of Pakistan’s clean energy transition plan.
Energy Output
The project is expected to generate about 861.91 GWh of electricity annually with a capacity factor of 19.6%.
Power will be supplied to K-Electric under a long-term agreement.
Project Structure
It will be developed under an EPC model through competitive bidding.
The financing includes $182.72 million in debt and $60.91 million in equity, with an estimated tariff of 3.98 US cents per kWh.

Key Feature
The floating design will use water surfaces instead of land, improving efficiency and avoiding land constraints.
Impact
The project aligns with Pakistan’s 2030 emission reduction targets and is expected to support job creation and increase renewable energy supply.
