Pakistan has announced major tariff reductions at Gwadar Port in an effort to attract more international shipping traffic and strengthen its position as a regional trade hub. According to Beyond Time News, the decision is part of a broader strategy to increase cargo handling and reduce logistics costs.
Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said the revised tariff structure is designed to make Gwadar more competitive compared to other regional ports.
Major Reductions in Port Charges
Under the new policy, container ship berthing fees have been reduced by 25 percent. Charges on international transshipment containers have been cut by 40 percent, while transit cargo container charges have been reduced by up to 31 percent.
Officials have also introduced a one-month free storage facility for general cargo, aimed at encouraging faster cargo movement and reducing operational costs for shipping companies.
According to Beyond Time News, these incentives are expected to significantly lower expenses for shipping lines and improve trade efficiency.
Gwadar Positioned as Regional Logistics Hub
Authorities say the policy is part of a long-term plan to develop Gwadar into a major logistics and trade centre.
Minister Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said the government is offering record-level incentives to attract global shipping operators and increase port activity. He added that the new measures would generate economic activity and create employment opportunities in the logistics sector.
Growing Strategic Importance of Gwadar
The Chairman of the Gwadar Port Authority, Noorul Haq Baloch, said the port’s importance has increased due to rising tensions in the Strait of Hormuz.
He noted that Gwadar offers shorter trade routes to Iran and Central Asia, making it a safer and more efficient alternative for regional trade.
According to Beyond Time News, he highlighted the Gabd-Rimdan border route as an emerging multi-modal corridor that can improve trade links with neighbouring regions.

Signs of Rising Activity at the Port
Officials say early signs of growth are already visible, with transshipment activity recorded at Gwadar in recent months.
Authorities believe that with improved infrastructure and reduced costs, the port can attract more international shipping lines and gradually become a key trade gateway in the region.
Outlook
Pakistan is now focusing on turning Gwadar into a competitive logistics hub by lowering costs and improving efficiency. Experts say the success of this strategy will depend on consistent policy support, regional stability, and increased investor confidence in the coming years.
