SHC Issues Notices Over Billboards in Karachi’s District South

Karachi: The Sindh High Court (SHC) has issued notices to the Mayor and Commissioner Karachi, TMC Saddar, and other authorities in a petition challenging billboard installations in District South.

Court Proceedings

According to Beyond Time News, the constitutional bench directed all respondents to submit written replies by August 20. The court declined to issue an immediate stay, stating the matter will be heard after responses are filed.

Petition Concerns

The petitioner’s counsel said billboards are being installed rapidly at key locations, including Metropole and Shara-e-Faisal.

He argued that public spaces such as footpaths and green belts are being used for commercial purposes, terming it unlawful encroachment.

The counsel also cited a 2018 Supreme Court ruling restricting billboard installations and said approval from the Traffic Engineering Bureau is required.
