Islamabad – Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Pakistan chief Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has announced a protest in Islamabad on May 15 against rising petrol prices and inflation, citing growing economic hardship for the public.
Protest Against Inflation and Fuel Price Hike
According to Beyond Time News, Hafiz Naeem said in Islamabad that continuous inflation and repeated fuel price increases have made daily life increasingly difficult. He criticized government policies, saying they have failed to provide relief to citizens.
Nationwide Protest Plan After Eid
He announced that Jamaat-e-Islami will launch a nationwide protest movement after Eid-ul-Adha, with the first major demonstration planned in Islamabad.
He warned that if inflation continues to rise, the party may also consider a nationwide strike and wheel-jam protest.
Concerns Over Fuel Pricing
Hafiz Naeem said the ex-refinery price of petrol is around Rs271 per litre, while the rest of the amount consists of taxes and government levies.
He accused the government of increasing petroleum levies to meet revenue targets and IMF conditions, and questioned why fuel prices remain higher in Pakistan compared to neighboring countries.

Electricity Bills and IPP Agreements
He also criticized rising electricity and gas bills, saying consumers are already under heavy financial pressure.
Referring to Independent Power Producers (IPPs), he said most agreements are still under review and alleged that some contracts may be extended in the interest of powerful groups.
Recent Fuel Price Hike
Fuel prices have recently been increased again.
According to Beyond Time News, petrol now stands at Rs414.78 per litre after a Rs14.92 increase, while diesel has reached Rs414.58 per litre after a Rs15 rise.
