South Air Launches Test Flights in Pakistan to Expand Domestic Connectivity

KARACHI: Newly established airline South Air has begun its test flight operations today as part of efforts to promote tourism and enhance regional air connectivity across Pakistan.

According to sources, the airline’s inaugural test flight will operate from Karachi to Gwadar and Quetta. The airline will use ATR aircraft for its domestic operations.

Focus on Tourism and Regional Connectivity

Sources said South Air aims to strengthen tourism and improve access between underserved regions and major urban centres. The airline’s operations are expected to support connectivity across key domestic routes.

Planned Domestic Network Expansion

The airline is planning to operate flights linking multiple cities, including Multan, Gwadar, Turbat, Quetta, Karachi, Sukkur, and Rahim Yar Khan, sources added.

Licensing and Regulatory Approval Process

South Air has already secured a TPRI licence from the Pakistan Civil Aviation Authority to support tourism-focused aviation services. The airline has also applied for an RPT (Regular Public Transport) licence to expand its commercial operations.

South Air describes itself as a new domestic carrier aiming to make air travel more accessible and affordable, particularly for underserved communities. The airline says it plans to bridge connectivity gaps by linking smaller cities and towns with major economic hubs across the country.
