New York: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar has arrived in New York on a three-day official visit to attend a high-level United Nations Security Council (UNSC) debate on international peace, security, and multilateral cooperation, the Foreign Office said on Tuesday.
According to Beyond Time News, Dar will represent Pakistan at the UNSC Open Debate titled “Maintenance of International Peace and Security: Upholding the Purposes and Principles of the UN Charter and Strengthening the UN-centred International System”, convened under China’s rotating presidency.
UNSC Debate Overview
The session, chaired by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, will focus on strengthening the United Nations’ role in maintaining global peace and encouraging multilateral cooperation among member states.
Pakistan welcomed the initiative, calling it a timely effort to reinforce the UN-led international system.
Meetings in New York
During the visit, Dar will hold bilateral meetings with foreign counterparts and senior UN officials on the sidelines of the debate.
Upon arrival, he was received by Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad and Consul General Aamer Ahmad Atozai.
Group of Friends Meeting
Dar will also attend the Group of Friends on Global Governance meeting on May 28, focusing on reforms to improve international cooperation and strengthen global governance frameworks.
