International Day of UN Peacekeepers
The International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers is observed every year to recognise the sacrifices and services of military, police, and civilian personnel working in conflict-affected regions.
This year’s theme is “Invest in Peace,” which highlights the need for political support and financial investment to achieve lasting peace around the world.
According to Beyond Time News, the day also marks the anniversary of the United Nations Truce Supervision Organisation (UNTSO), the first UN peacekeeping mission launched in Palestine in 1948.
Tribute to Fallen Peacekeepers
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif paid tribute to peacekeepers who lost their lives while serving humanity and maintaining peace in troubled regions.
He said more than 4,400 UN peacekeepers from different countries have died during peacekeeping missions, including over 181 Pakistani personnel.
“The courageous peacekeepers serving across the globe have made extraordinary sacrifices in the service of humanity,” the prime minister said.
He added that Pakistan takes pride in its martyrs and in all those who continue to serve with professionalism and dedication in difficult environments.

Pakistan’s Role in Global Stability
Pakistani peacekeepers have served in many regions, including Africa and the Middle East. They have been recognised internationally for professionalism, humanitarian work, and support for local communities.
Experts believe Pakistan’s active role in UN missions helps strengthen the country’s image at the international level. Peacekeeping operations also help protect civilians, support ceasefires, and rebuild stability in conflict-hit areas.
The inclusion of women peacekeepers has further improved community engagement, especially in helping women and children affected by conflict.
Continued Commitment to Peace
The prime minister said Pakistan will continue supporting international peace efforts through the United Nations.
At a time when many parts of the world face conflicts and humanitarian crises, he stressed the importance of cooperation and collective action to maintain global peace and security.
Pakistan’s continued contribution to UN peacekeeping missions reflects its broader commitment to diplomacy, peacebuilding, and international cooperation.
