After Yasin Malik, Showkat Bakshi being targeted in fake 1990 case

Jammu: Following the controversial targeting of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front chief Muhammad Yasin Malik, another Kashmiri, Shoukat Bakshi, has come under the scanner in a decades-old fake case, highlighting the continued pattern of politically motivated and fabricated charges against Kashmiris.

According to Beyond the Time News, Bakshi was “identified” by an eyewitness before a special court in Jammu as one of the shooters involved in the January 25, 1990 attack on Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel in Rawalpora, Srinagar.

A charge sheet was filed on August 31, 1990, against Muhammad Yasin Malik and five others, including Bakshi, in the draconian TADA court in Jammu. Other accused include JKLF activists Ali Mohammed Mir, Manzoor Ahmed Sofi alias Mustafa, Javed Ahmed Mir alias ‘Nalka’, Javed Ahmed Zargar, and Saleem alias Nanaji.

Senior Additional Advocate General Monika Kohli, representing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the case, stated that Bakshi was identified by a prosecution witness. Legal experts have rejected the notion saying that an attempt is being made to eleminate Kashmiri leadership on fake charges.
