Islamabad: The Kashmiri political and civil leadership expressed profound grief over the passing of Azad Jammu & Kashmir (AJK) President Barrister Sultan Mehmood Chaudhry, who breathed his last after a prolonged illness. The late leader’s death was widely described as an irreplaceable loss for Kashmiris on both sides of the Line of Control.
According to Beyond the Time News, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Kashmir (APHC-AJK) convenor Ghulam Muhammad Safi in a statement said President Chaudhry served with utmost sincerity, dignity, and national consciousness, first as Prime Minister and later as President of AJK. “He consistently represented the aspirations, emotions, and sacrifices of the Kashmiri people and kept the Kashmir issue at the center of his politics,” Safi added. He noted that Chaudhry raised the Kashmir issue globally in a reasoned and effective manner, fearlessly exposing India’s oppressive and illegal actions.
Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, Acting President of the Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party, described the late president as a seasoned politician and a strong advocate of Kashmiris’ right to self-determination. “His demise is a huge loss for Kashmiris living on both sides of the Line of Control,” he said, praying that Allah grant the departed soul eternal peace and patience to the bereaved family.
Altaf Hussain Wani, Senior Vice Chairman of the Jammu and Kashmir National Front, expressed deep shock at the loss of a leader who had championed the Kashmir cause globally for decades. He said Barrister Chaudhry rendered invaluable political and social services and played a pivotal role in projecting the Kashmir issue at international forums. “His contributions will be remembered for a long time,” Wani said, offering heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.
