Taliban Urges Afghans in Qatar to Return

The Taliban government has called on Afghan nationals currently in Qatar to return home, assuring them they can do so without fear. The announcement comes as uncertainty grows for Afghans waiting for relocation to other countries.

According to Beyond Time News, a spokesperson for Afghanistan’s foreign ministry said the country remains open to all its citizens. He encouraged Afghans abroad to come back “with full confidence and peace of mind,” describing Afghanistan as a shared homeland for all.

Uncertainty for Afghans Awaiting Resettlement

Many Afghans in Qatar had worked with US forces before the 2021 withdrawal. They stayed at a former US base while waiting for visas to relocate, mainly to the United States.

However, recent policy changes under Donald Trump have slowed the process. Reports suggest authorities asked some Afghans to choose between returning home or moving to a third country.

Advocacy groups raised concerns about these options. They argue that relocating vulnerable individuals to unstable regions or sending them back may put them at risk.

US Policy Shift and Refugee Concerns

Earlier, the United States resettled over 190,000 under a programme launched by Joe Biden. Recently, however, officials tightened immigration rules and paused parts of the refugee process.

A US State Department spokesperson said relocating Afghans to third countries could provide a safer solution while addressing security concerns.

Mixed Reactions and Ongoing Concerns

While the Taliban insist that Afghanistan is now secure, international observers remain cautious. Antonio Guterres has previously highlighted reports of arrests and mistreatment involving former officials and security personnel.

These concerns continue to influence decisions by Afghans who remain unsure about returning home or seeking resettlement elsewhere.

Situation Remains Unclear

The situation for Afghans in Qatar remains uncertain. While the Taliban promise safety, many individuals continue to weigh their options carefully, considering both security risks and future opportunities.
