ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is preparing to introduce an electric cart service at major airports to make passenger movement easier and more comfortable.
According to Beyond Time News, the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA) will start the service in the first phase at Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore, and Multan airports.
The service will help passengers travel between parking areas and terminal buildings without difficulty. It will also support return trips from concourse halls to parking spaces, reducing walking distance inside airport premises.
PAA has already issued a tender to procure electric carts, which shows that the project is now moving into the implementation stage.
PAA Director Commercial Rabia Salmi said passengers will soon book electric carts through a mobile application. She added that the service will particularly benefit elderly travellers and people who need extra assistance.
This step follows a recent high-level meeting chaired by Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, where officials discussed ways to improve airport operations and passenger facilitation.

During the meeting held on April 22, authorities approved modern screening machines to speed up security checks. They also decided to introduce a single-point checking system to reduce delays.
Officials further reviewed progress on installing e-gates at airports. These upgrades aim to improve passenger flow and reduce waiting time.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi stressed the need for better coordination between departments. He said improved systems would help reduce crowding, shorten queues, and make airport travel smoother for passengers across the country.
