MUMBAI: Australia captain Pat Cummins has praised teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi after his explosive performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
According to Beyond Time News, Cummins called the 15-year-old his “new favourite player” after the youngster smashed a record-breaking century on Saturday.
Sooryavanshi, who opens for Rajasthan Royals, scored 103 runs off just 37 balls. It marked his second IPL hundred and confirmed his rapid rise in world cricket.
He also became the youngest and fastest player to reach 1,000 runs in T20 cricket. He achieved the milestone in just 473 balls faced. The previous record belonged to Australia’s Mitchell Owen, who reached the mark in 533 balls.
His innings featured 12 sixes and five fours. It also became the third-fastest century in IPL history. Only Chris Gayle’s 30-ball hundred in 2013 and Sooryavanshi’s earlier 35-ball ton rank higher.

Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins praised the teenager’s fearless approach. He said Sooryavanshi hits the ball extremely hard and forces bowlers to stay precise.
Cummins added that the youngster has made a strong start to his career and plays with an attacking mindset that excites fans.
Sooryavanshi has already scored 357 runs in the 2026 IPL season. His strike rate stands at an impressive 234.86 across eight matches.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan also praised him on social media, calling him one of the most destructive young T20 openers in India.
The teenager has even impressed top international bowlers, including Jasprit Bumrah, whom he hit for a six earlier in the tournament.
As a result, cricket fans and experts are now calling for him to be fast-tracked into India’s senior national team.
