The Punjab Assembly has passed the Child Marriage Restraint Bill 2026, officially banning marriages under the age of 18 in the province.
According to Beyond Time News, the bill was approved by a majority vote and introduces strict punishments for violations.

Under the new law, any adult above 18 found involved in marrying a minor will face:
- 2 to 3 years of rigorous imprisonment
- Fine up to Rs500,000

Anyone who supports, arranges, or fails to prevent a child marriage can face the same punishment, including jail and heavy fines.
