China Calls for Immediate End to Middle East Fighting

China has urged an immediate and complete end to fighting in the Middle East. Foreign Minister Wang Yi made this appeal on Wednesday during talks in Beijing with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.

He said all sides must stop hostilities without delay. He warned that restarting violence would be unacceptable. In addition, he stressed that negotiations must continue.

Call to Reopen Strait of Hormuz

Wang also pushed for the swift reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. He noted that the international community has called for safe and normal maritime traffic.

Moreover, he said China expects all parties to respond quickly. This, he added, is necessary to restore stability in the waterway.

Nuclear Issue and Iran’s Position

On the nuclear issue, Wang reiterated China’s position. He welcomed Iran’s pledge not to develop nuclear weapons.

However, he also stated that Iran retains the right to peaceful nuclear energy.

China’s Economic Stakes

China is significantly affected by the ongoing crisis. According to Kpler, more than half of its seaborne crude oil imports pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

As a result, any disruption in the strait directly threatens China’s energy security.

Diplomatic Efforts and Regional Stability

Beijing has quietly supported efforts to reduce tensions. It has engaged in diplomatic outreach between Washington and Tehran.

These efforts, according to Chinese officials, have contributed to a fragile ceasefire.

Finally, Wang said China will continue to push for peace. He added that Beijing will strengthen support for negotiations and work to restore regional stability.
