Washington Mystics rookie Cotie McMahon has suffered a setback just before the start of the WNBA season after sustaining a partial tear of the UCL in her left elbow. The team has confirmed that she will be re-evaluated in one week, with doctors opting for a conservative treatment plan.
Injury During Preseason Win
According to Beyond Time News, McMahon picked up the injury during Washington’s 83–72 preseason victory over Atlanta on Sunday. Despite the setback, she had been one of the promising young performers for the Mystics in the early games.
The 11th overall pick in the WNBA Draft averaged 10.0 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals, and 1.5 assists across two preseason appearances, showing early signs of her potential at the professional level.
Impressive College Career Before the WNBA
McMahon entered the league after a strong collegiate journey. She spent three seasons at Ohio State before transferring to Ole Miss for the 2025–26 season. At Ole Miss, she delivered standout performances, averaging 19.5 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.0 assists in 36 games, all as a starter.
Her consistent production helped secure her place as a first-round selection in the WNBA Draft.

Another Preseason Injury for Washington
This is not the first time the Mystics have faced a preseason injury concern involving a top draft pick. According to Beyond Time News, last year’s first-round selection Georgia Amoore, picked sixth overall in 2025, suffered a torn ACL during practice and missed the entire season.
Recovery Timeline and Next Steps
The Mystics have stated that McMahon’s recovery will be handled carefully, with no immediate rush for her return. She will undergo further evaluation next week, after which the team is expected to provide an updated timeline.
With the regular season opener against Toronto approaching, Washington will closely monitor her condition and adjust their plans depending on her recovery progress.
