Islamabad: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a heatwave alert for much of the country, warning that extreme temperatures are likely to persist from June 7 to June 12 due to a strong high-pressure system developing in the upper atmosphere.
According to Beyond Time News, the weather system is expected to push temperatures significantly above seasonal norms across Sindh, Balochistan, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and northern regions.
High-Pressure System Driving Extreme Heat
The Met Office said a high-pressure system forming on June 8 will remain active until June 11, intensifying hot and dry conditions across large parts of the country.
Officials warned that both daytime and nighttime temperatures will rise, increasing the risk of heat-related discomfort and health issues.
Sindh and Balochistan to Face Severe Heat
The most extreme conditions are expected in parts of Sindh and Balochistan, where temperatures may climb between 48°C and 51°C.
Cities including Jacobabad, Larkana, Dadu, Sukkur, Turbat, and Panjgur are likely to experience prolonged and intense heat throughout the forecast period.
Punjab and Islamabad Also Affected
In Punjab, temperatures are expected to rise sharply, with major cities including Lahore, Multan, Faisalabad, Sargodha, and Bahawalpur likely to see highs of 44°C to 48°C.
Islamabad, Rawalpindi, and surrounding areas may experience temperatures 5–7°C above normal, reaching up to 41°C to 44°C.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Northern Areas
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, cities such as Peshawar, Mardan, Bannu, and Dera Ismail Khan could see temperatures between 41°C and 46°C.
Northern areas including Chitral, Dir, Swat, and Gilgit-Baltistan are expected to remain comparatively milder but still above normal, with temperatures around 37°C to 40°C.
Karachi to See Intense Heat
Karachi is also expected to experience very hot conditions, with temperatures likely ranging between 40°C and 43°C during the heatwave period.
Advisory and Precaution
The PMD has urged citizens to take precautionary measures, especially during peak daylight hours, as prolonged exposure to high temperatures may increase the risk of heat stress.
