- Pakistan assumes conference chair as OIC delegates gather for two-day discussions on women’s socio-economic and political empowerment
Islamabad: Pakistan is hosting the 9th Ministerial Conference on Women of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on July 12–13, bringing together ministers, senior government officials, OIC representatives and international development partners to discuss ways to strengthen the socio-economic and political empowerment of women across the Muslim world.
According to Beyond Time News, delegations from OIC member states have arrived in Islamabad to participate in the two-day conference being held under the theme, “Socio-Economic and Political Empowerment of Women in the OIC Countries: Challenges and Way Forward.”
The conference provides an important platform for member countries to exchange ideas, review progress and explore practical strategies to improve women’s participation in economic, political and social life.
Pakistan Assumes Chairmanship of the Conference
During the ministerial meeting, Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar will officially assume the chairmanship of the 9th OIC Ministerial Conference on Women on behalf of Pakistan.
As chair, Pakistan will lead the conference proceedings, facilitate dialogue among member states and encourage greater cooperation on policies aimed at promoting women’s empowerment and sustainable development throughout the OIC region.
Government officials said Pakistan’s role reflects its continued commitment to strengthening cooperation within the OIC and supporting initiatives that promote inclusive development and social progress.
Delegations Receive Official Welcome
Senior government officials welcomed visiting delegations upon their arrival at Islamabad International Airport.
The reception was led by Minister of State for Law and Justice Barrister Aqeel Malik, Parliamentary Secretary for Human Rights Saba Sadiq, Parliamentary Secretary for Law and Justice Farah Naz Akbar, along with senior officials from the Ministry of Human Rights, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and other government institutions.
The welcoming ceremony marked the beginning of the conference programme, which includes ministerial sessions, policy discussions and bilateral meetings over two days.
Conference Focuses on Women’s Empowerment
The conference agenda centres on identifying practical measures to improve women’s participation in social, economic and political life across OIC member states.
Key areas of discussion include:
- Expanding women’s participation in economic development.
- Improving access to education, skills development and employment opportunities.

- Strengthening cooperation on family welfare and social development.
