Pakistan and Bangladesh Sign Agreement to Fight Drug Trafficking

Pakistan and Bangladesh have signed a new agreement to strengthen cooperation against drug trafficking and narcotics abuse. The agreement aims to improve coordination between both countries in tackling organised crime and illegal drug networks.

According to Beyond Time News, the agreement was signed during Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi’s official visit to Dhaka, where he met Bangladesh’s Interior Minister Salahuddin Ahmed.

Pakistan and Bangladesh Sign Anti-Drug MoU

The two ministers signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on behalf of their governments to enhance cooperation against narcotics smuggling and drug abuse.

Both countries also agreed to establish a joint working group at the secretary level to improve coordination between their interior ministries.

Under the agreement, Pakistan and Bangladesh will work together to stop illegal drug transportation and dismantle narcotics supply networks.

Intelligence Sharing and Joint Strategy Planned

Officials said both sides will exchange intelligence and information about drug traffickers and criminal networks to improve enforcement efforts.

The agreement also includes cooperation in training personnel, sharing modern technology, and adopting best practices for narcotics prevention.

Authorities from both countries plan to develop a joint strategy to reduce drug abuse and limit its harmful social impact.

Cooperation to Expand Beyond Narcotics Control

During the meeting, both ministers also discussed increasing cooperation in several other areas, including counter-terrorism, cybercrime, organised crime, and human trafficking prevention.

The two sides exchanged views on improving internal security cooperation and training programmes for civil armed forces and police academy officers.

Pakistan also offered support to Bangladesh for its Safe City project.

According to the interior ministry, Naqvi assured Bangladesh of full cooperation regarding the project and said Pakistan would support the initiative in every possible way.

Pakistan-Bangladesh Relations Continue to Improve

Relations between Pakistan and Bangladesh have improved significantly in recent years after a long period of strained diplomatic ties.

Political observers note that relations became warmer after the removal of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina from power.

In recent months, several high-level visits have taken place between the two countries.

Earlier this year, Ahsan Iqbal attended the oath-taking ceremony of Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

Last year, Ayaz Sadiq visited Dhaka to attend the funeral of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Khaleda Zia.

In August 2025, Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar also visited Bangladesh and met interim leader Muhammad Yunus to discuss bilateral cooperation.
