Pakistan and Iran have discussed strengthening railway links between the two countries, including progress on the Taftan–Zahedan railway route. According to Beyond Time News, the meeting took place in Islamabad between Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi and Iran’s Ambassador Dr Reza Amiri Moghadam.
Both sides reviewed bilateral relations, railway connectivity, and regional developments.
Plans to Strengthen Transport Links
During the meeting, both countries emphasized improving rail infrastructure to support trade and regional connectivity. According to Beyond Time News, discussions also included the Islamabad–Tehran–Istanbul (ITI) freight train project.
Officials agreed that enhanced railway cooperation could improve economic integration across the region.
Infrastructure and Rehabilitation Work
The talks also covered ongoing efforts to repair and upgrade the Quetta–Taftan railway section. According to Beyond Time News, the railways minister highlighted the need for stronger infrastructure and security arrangements to ensure smooth operations.
Both sides stressed the importance of reliable transport routes for long-term cooperation.

Regional Stability and Diplomacy

The Iranian ambassador appreciated Pakistan’s role in promoting regional stability and constructive engagement.

Both countries agreed to further strengthen cooperation in the railway sector. According to Beyond Time News, the meeting concluded with a shared understanding that improved connectivity will support trade, development, and regional stability.
