ISLAMABAD: A high-level technical delegation from Türkiye, led by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), has visited Pakistan to explore stronger cooperation in flood management, climate resilience, and early warning systems, according to Beyond Time News.
The visit aims to build a joint framework between the two countries to improve disaster preparedness and reduce climate-related risks.
Focus on Climate and Disaster Cooperation
The Turkish delegation includes experts from multiple institutions, including Türkiye’s Ministry of Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, the General Directorate of State Hydraulic Works (DSI), the General Directorate for Water Management, and TIKA.
During the visit, both sides focused on strengthening technical collaboration and sharing expertise in managing floods and climate-related disasters.
Meetings with Key Pakistani Institutions
The delegation held detailed meetings with major Pakistani organizations, including the Federal Flood Commission (FFC), Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), and the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination.
Officials discussed ways to improve coordination and develop stronger systems for disaster prevention and response.
High-Level Discussion on Climate Strategy
A key meeting took place with Secretary of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Aisha Humera Chaudhary and senior officials.
Both sides exchanged ideas on improving flood management systems and strengthening cooperation in environmental protection. They also reviewed current and future initiatives in disaster risk reduction.
Areas of Mutual Cooperation
The discussions covered several important areas, including:
- Water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) systems
- Flood and river basin management
- Glacier and avalanche monitoring
- Desertification and erosion control
- Climate-resilient infrastructure
- Hydrometeorological forecasting systems
In addition, both countries explored cooperation in zero-waste projects, technical training, capacity building, and joint research programs.

The Turkish delegation also visited key hydrometeorological and flood management facilities in Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Lahore.
They inspected telemetry-based monitoring stations, river flood sites, and forecasting centers. Experts from both countries exchanged views on improving data-driven risk analysis and early warning systems.
