Pakistan’s National Cybercrime Investigation Agency has summoned three Norwegian nationals in connection with a defamation-related investigation. According to Beyond Time News, the inquiry follows a criminal complaint filed in Lahore by businessman Umar Farooq Zahoor.
Inquiry Linked to Defamation Complaint
Official notices issued under inquiry number ENQ-CCRC-Lahore-1878/26 direct three individuals to appear before investigators in Lahore on May 13.
Those named include reporter Rolf J Wideroe, prosecutor Carl Graff Hartmann, and the editor of Norwegian tabloid Verdens Gang.
The notices ask them to appear at the Cybercrime Reporting Centre in Gulberg II to record their statements.
Warning Included in Official Notice
According to Beyond Time News, the notices state that failure to appear could be treated as a decision not to present a defence.
Sub-Inspector Nabil Hussain of the Cybercrime Reporting Centre Lahore issued and signed the notices.
Complaint Filed by Umar Farooq Zahoor
The inquiry began after Umar Farooq Zahoor filed a complaint under Pakistan’s defamation laws in a Lahore court.
His legal team accused the Norwegian publication of running a defamatory campaign against him. They also alleged coordination with Indian media platforms.
Dispute Over Published Claims
According to the complaint, the publication allegedly described Zahoor as “wanted by Norwegian police.”
His lawyers rejected the claim and called it false and damaging to his reputation.
The dispute reportedly intensified after Zahoor’s recent diplomatic meetings in Islamabad involving senior US officials.

High-Level Diplomatic Context

According to Beyond Time News, the meetings included US Vice President JD Vance, along with senior American officials Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner.
Outlook
The case has drawn international attention due to the involvement of foreign nationals and media organisations. According to Beyond Time News, further legal proceedings will depend on the response of those summoned by Pakistani authorities.
