Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan is now focusing on attracting investment, expertise, and industrial cooperation instead of relying on loans and foreign aid. He made these remarks while addressing the Pakistan-China Business-to-Business Investment Conference in Hangzhou on Sunday.
The prime minister highlighted that Pakistan aims to build a stronger economic partnership with China through long-term collaboration in key sectors.
Focus on Agriculture and Exports
Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistan can significantly increase agricultural output with Chinese support. He stressed the need for modern seeds, advanced machinery, and improved farming techniques.
He added that Pakistan could expand its agricultural exports to China by nearly $10 billion within the next five to seven years, provided both sides strengthen cooperation.
Expanding Cooperation in Key Sectors
The prime minister also emphasized broader collaboration in agriculture, information technology, artificial intelligence, and other emerging industries.
In addition, he said Pakistan is working to equip its youth with modern IT training and internationally recognized certifications to meet global market demands.
Special Economic Zone in Karachi
Shehbaz Sharif announced the development of a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in Karachi, covering around 6,000 acres. He said the project will offer modern infrastructure and a simplified business environment through a one-window operation system.
Furthermore, he invited Chinese investors to benefit from long-term land lease opportunities on attractive terms.
Strengthening Pakistan–China Economic Partnership
The prime minister described the Pakistan–China relationship as a historic and strategic partnership, noting that both countries are marking 75 years of diplomatic ties.
He praised China’s leadership, saying President Xi Jinping has transformed China into a global economic and industrial powerhouse.
