Islamabad: The Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) and the Equestrian Federation of Pakistan (EFP) jointly laid the foundation stone of a new Riding Club at the Pakistan Sports Complex, according to Beyond Time News.
Groundbreaking marks new step for sports development
Outgoing PSB Director General Muhammad Yasir Pirzada performed the groundbreaking ceremony. He described the project as an important milestone for equestrian sports in Pakistan.
He said the new facility will help young riders access modern training and improve their skills in Olympic disciplines.
EFP calls project a major breakthrough
EFP President Raja Zarrar Sajjad also called the riding club a significant development. He said it would support the growth of horse riding and help train young athletes across the country.
He thanked the government and PSB leadership for providing land and support for the project.
Focus on Olympic equestrian disciplines
Raja Zarrar said the federation will now focus more on Olympic events such as dressage, show jumping, and eventing. He added that Pakistan already performs well in traditional events like tent pegging.
At the same time, he emphasized the need to expand international-level training and coaching facilities in the country.

Training, talent, and future plans
The EFP president said Islamabad was chosen for its climate and growing interest in sports. He added that schools, colleges, and universities in the city would help identify young talent.
Moreover, he said international coaches would be invited to conduct training sessions and camps at the new club.
He also announced that the National Equestrian Championship would soon be held at the new venue after Eid-ul-Azha.
Sustainability and future vision
Raja Zarrar stressed that financial transparency and self-sustainability would be key priorities. He said most riders already bear their own costs, including horse care and transport.
He further highlighted the importance of horse welfare and announced awareness programs for better training standards.
Finally, he expressed hope that both government and private sponsors would continue supporting the development of equestrian sports in Pakistan.
