Sindh Govt Announces Rs3,000 Monthly Support for Children

KARACHI: The Sindh government has introduced a major relief initiative for families by announcing financial support for young children under the Sindh Social Protection Program. According to Beyond Time News, children from birth to five years of age will receive financial assistance, with a strong focus on rural communities.

The decision aims to improve child welfare, reduce poverty, and support vulnerable families across the province.

Rs3,000 Support for Early Childhood Development

Under the new plan, eligible children will receive Rs3,000 in financial support, helping families manage essential needs such as nutrition, healthcare, and early education.

The government designed this initiative as part of a broader Early Childhood Development (ECD) programme. The project targets around 885,000 children and focuses on improving health, growth, and school readiness.

Key Decisions Approved in SSPA Meeting

Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah chaired the 3rd board meeting of the Sindh Social Protection Authority (SSPA), where officials approved several important welfare measures.

These include:

  • Expansion of the Early Childhood Development programme
  • Seasonal financial support for women agricultural workers
  • Improvements in the Mamta maternal health cash programme

The meeting highlighted the government’s commitment to expanding the social safety net and supporting low-income households.

Improvements in Mamta Programme

Officials reviewed the progress of the Mamta programme, which currently operates in 22 districts. The project has a budget of Rs56 billion and supports over one million beneficiaries.

To improve payment consistency, the government approved a Hybrid Predictable Payment Model (PPM). This system ensures that mothers receive payments on time, even if there are slight delays in health visits.

In addition, authorities approved full financial support for a mother’s pregnancy or her youngest child. They also approved 75% payments for older children under two years, ensuring broader coverage for vulnerable families.

Support for Rural Women Farmers

The government also launched a Women Agricultural Workers Programme. This initiative will provide monthly cash support to rural women during low-income seasons.

The programme aims to:

  • Reduce financial stress
  • Improve food security
  • Help families avoid debt during difficult periods

Expansion Plans and Partnerships

Authorities plan to expand the Mamta programme further. They have approved a feasibility study in collaboration with the Gates Foundation to extend support to underserved urban areas in Karachi and Hyderabad.

Moreover, the government will include additional health facilities in seven new districts. DHQ and THQ hospitals will serve as central service points for the programme.

Government’s Vision for Social Protection

Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said the government wants to build a reliable and predictable support system for low-income families.

He emphasized that protecting mothers and supporting children will strengthen families and contribute to long-term development in Sindh.

Conclusion

By combining financial aid with health and nutrition support, the initiative aims to create a stronger and more secure future for vulnerable communities across the province.
