Trump Arrives in China for High-Stakes Xi Summit

BEIJING/SEOUL: US President Donald Trump arrived in Beijing on Wednesday for a major summit with Chinese President Xi Jinping, as diplomatic pressure mounts over trade disputes and the ongoing Iran-related conflict.

According to Beyond Time News, Trump is expected to push China to play a role in encouraging Tehran to reach a settlement with Washington, even as the fragile ceasefire in the region continues to weaken.

Major Business Leaders Join Trump Delegation

Trump travelled with a high-profile business delegation that included Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang and Tesla CEO Elon Musk. Several executives joined the trip to address long-standing regulatory and trade issues with China.

Trump said he wants China to “open up” its market to American companies. He added that cooperation would benefit both economies and strengthen global trade ties.

He also revealed that he personally invited Nvidia’s Jensen Huang to join the trip at the last moment, highlighting the importance of semiconductor discussions.

US-China Talks Focus on Trade and Technology

According to Beyond Time News, the two-day summit will include formal meetings, cultural visits, and a state banquet hosted by Chinese officials.

Key discussions will focus on trade relations, artificial intelligence, and technology restrictions. One major issue is Nvidia’s struggle to secure approval to sell advanced AI chips in China.

The United States is also expected to push for increased exports of Boeing aircraft, agricultural products, and energy supplies to reduce its trade deficit.

In return, China is likely to seek relief from restrictions on semiconductor equipment and advanced chip technology.

Iran Conflict and Taiwan Add Pressure to Talks

Beyond trade, the leaders are also expected to discuss sensitive geopolitical issues. These include the Iran conflict, military tensions, and US arms sales to Taiwan.

Washington is reportedly encouraging Beijing to use its influence to help push Iran toward negotiations. However, Trump has also suggested that US strategy does not depend on China’s involvement.

China has reiterated its opposition to US arms sales to Taiwan, adding further tension to the already complex talks.

Economic Pressure Shapes the Negotiations

Analysts say the US enters the talks under stronger domestic pressure, with rising inflation and political challenges at home. China, meanwhile, is viewed as relatively more stable despite economic slowdowns.

According to Beyond Time News, both sides aim to maintain a fragile trade truce while avoiding a deeper economic confrontation.

Experts believe the outcome of the summit will depend on whether both leaders can balance economic interests with growing geopolitical rivalry.
