Vingegaard wins Giro d’Italia, completes career Grand Tour set

ROME: Jonas Vingegaard sealed overall victory at the Giro d’Italia on Sunday after completing the final ceremonial stage in Rome, while Italy’s Jonathan Milan won the closing sprint.

The Danish rider only needed to finish the flat finale to confirm his triumph, securing his place among cycling’s elite as one of the few riders to win all three Grand Tours.

Historic achievement

With the Giro title added to his previous Tour de France successes, Vingegaard becomes only the eighth male cyclist to complete the career Grand Tour set, joining legends including Bernard Hinault, Eddy Merckx and Vincenzo Nibali.

The 29-year-old rider dominated the race after a decisive mountain stage win, finishing comfortably ahead of runner-up Felix Gall.

Focus shifts to Tour de France

Vingegaard will now turn his attention to the Tour de France in July, where he is expected to renew his rivalry with Tadej Pogacar, one of the sport’s leading figures.

He finished the Giro with multiple stage wins and a commanding overall lead, never seriously threatened during the race.

Despite the win, Milan missed out on the points classification, which went to Paul Magnier.
