Islamabad – In a major step toward economic transformation, the Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI) has formed a new Standing Committee on Health Industry Advancement. The chamber has appointed Yasir Khan Niazi as its chairman, aiming to position healthcare as a strategic pillar of Pakistan’s economy.
Healthcare to Drive Economic Growth
According to Beyond Time News, this initiative reflects a shift in thinking—treating healthcare not just as a public service, but as a powerful economic sector. The move highlights its potential to boost exports, attract foreign investment, generate employment, and increase foreign exchange earnings.
ICCI President Sardar Tahir Mehmood praised Niazi’s appointment. He said Niazi’s experience and understanding of healthcare economics make him the right choice to lead this transformation at a national level.
A New Vision for the Healthcare Sector
After taking charge, Yasir Khan Niazi outlined a clear strategy. He plans to build an integrated healthcare ecosystem that connects:
- Medical education and training
- Clinical services and hospitals
- Pharmaceutical production and supply chains
- Digital health platforms and AI diagnostics
- Healthcare financing systems
He emphasized that Pakistan’s growing IT sector can play a key role in expanding telemedicine, hospital systems, and data-driven healthcare services—both locally and globally.

Global Opportunities and Pakistan’s Potential
Globally, the healthcare industry is valued at around $9 trillion. Despite being underdeveloped, Pakistan’s healthcare sector holds strong potential due to its population size, geographic position, and expanding digital infrastructure.
Niazi pointed out that industries like pharmaceuticals and medical tourism are growing rapidly worldwide. Countries offering affordable and quality healthcare are becoming preferred destinations, creating an opportunity for Pakistan to enter global markets.
Building a Strong, Connected Framework
ICCI is also forming a multidisciplinary panel. This group will include experts from healthcare, technology, finance, and logistics to create a modern, globally aligned system.
According to Imran Ali Ghouri, the goal is to connect different sectors and develop a unified framework that supports long-term growth and international competitiveness.
A Shift from Welfare to Industry
This initiative marks a significant change in how healthcare is viewed in Pakistan. Instead of treating it only as a welfare service, ICCI aims to develop it into a scalable, investment-ready industry driven by innovation and global integration.
If implemented effectively, this strategy could turn healthcare into a major engine of economic growth while improving services for citizens at the same time.
